Buoy One in Riverhead, NY, has become a cherished destination for us, serving as a reliable stop whenever we embark on our delightful wine tasting getaways to Long Island. This quaint eatery, known for its delectable seafood offerings, has consistently impressed us with its commitment to quality and flavor. Typically, our weekends begin with a leisurely lunch at Buoy One, where we indulge in a variety of dishes that showcase the freshest local ingredients.

However, on this particular occasion, we decided to switch things up and experience Buoy One for dinner instead. As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the restaurant, we were greeted by the inviting ambiance that makes this place so special. We settled into our seats, eagerly perusing the dinner menu, which featured an array of enticing options.

To start our delightful dining experience, my wife decided to begin her evening with a refreshing margarita, a classic choice that perfectly complemented the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant. Alongside it, I chose a captivating blue drink that was not only visually stunning but also incredibly delicious. Despite my best efforts to recall its exact name or ingredients, it remains a mystery to me, lost in the haze of the evening's enjoyment. The combination of flavors in that drink was truly remarkable, leaving us both intrigued and eager to discover more about its composition.

As for my meal, I kicked things off with a bowl of the Manhattan Clam Chowder. The chowder was served steaming hot, and its rich broth enveloped me in warmth and comfort. Each spoonful was packed with an abundance of flavor, featuring tender clams that were perfectly cooked and added a delightful brininess to the dish. The chowder was hearty and indulgent, making it a perfect starter for the meal ahead.

For my main course, I opted for a sumptuous dish that featured a medley of seafood: Shrimp, Scallops, and Calamari served over a bed of perfectly cooked Linguine. The dish was bathed in a luscious lemon, white wine, and garlic butter sauce that was rich and creamy, yet not overwhelming. The balance of flavors was exquisite; the bright acidity of the lemon cut through the richness of the butter, while the garlic added a fragrant depth that enhanced the overall experience. Each bite of the seafood was tender and flavorful, with the shrimp and scallops being particularly succulent, while the calamari offered a delightful chewiness that complemented the pasta beautifully.

My wife, on the other hand, chose to indulge in the Sesame Chicken Bites. Unfortunately, the kitchen had run out of the accompanying sauce, which was a disappointment, as we had both been looking forward to the unique flavor profile it promised. Nevertheless, the chicken bites themselves were a revelation. Each morsel was juicy, tender, and expertly seasoned, showcasing the chef's skill in preparing such a delightful dish.

Overall, our dining experience was a delightful exploration of diverse flavors and textures, with each dish narrating its own story and adding to a memorable evening. We were surprised to learn that this would be our last visit to Buoy One at this location, as they were relocating. As of writing this blog, they have reopened in their new location, still in Riverhead.
