Long Island Spirits, located in Baiting Hollow, New York, has been a beloved destination for us for many years, serving as a delightful retreat that combines the beauty of the local landscape with the craftsmanship of artisanal spirits. Each visit is an adventure filled with anticipation, as we eagerly look forward to discovering whether they have introduced any new products since our last trip. The excitement of exploring their latest offerings adds an element of surprise to our visits, as I am always eager to expand my palate and experience new flavors that the distillery has crafted.

Among the various selections available, my go-to choice has consistently been their award-winning Pine Barrens American Single Malt. This exceptional spirit is known for its rich and complex flavor profile, which reflects the meticulous care and attention to detail that goes into its production. The smoothness and depth of this single malt make it a standout choice for any occasion, whether enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as part of a carefully crafted cocktail.

However, my journey of exploration at Long Island Spirits took an exciting turn about two years ago when I was introduced to their new fan favorite, Field & Sounds Straight Bourbon. This bourbon quickly captured my attention and taste buds, becoming a new staple in my collection. This time around I saw the variety of other selections of the tasty bourbon and decided to try them all.

First, I would like to sincerely apologize for not providing my own photos of the Field & Sound whiskey flight experience. It was indeed a delightful tasting session, and I regret not capturing those moments visually. By this point in the day, I had already indulged in quite a bit to drink, which may have contributed to my oversight.

The first whiskey that I tried was the Field & Sound American Single Malt, which immediately captivated my senses. It had intriguing nutty notes intertwined with sweet citrus and a hint of spice that created a harmonious balance. The texture was exceptionally smooth, making it easy to sip without any harshness, allowing the flavors to linger pleasantly on the palate.

Next in line was the Field & Sound Rye, which presented a different profile altogether. It featured rich notes of coffee and vanilla, complemented by an underlying spiciness that intrigued me. However, I did notice a slight harshness as it went down, particularly in the throat, though it was not offensive. Instead, it added a layer of complexity to the tasting experience, making me appreciate the depth of flavors even more.

Moving on, I encountered the Field & Sound Wheated Bourbon, which was a delightful revelation. This particular whiskey had sugary notes of chocolate and toffee that enveloped my taste buds in a warm embrace. Unlike some of the others, it had little to no bite, making it the smoothest of the selections I sampled that day. It was as if each sip melted away the day’s stresses, leaving only the sweet aftertaste of indulgence.

Finally, the Field & Sound Straight Bourbon. This was the whiskey I was particularly eager to compare to the others, given my fond history with it. With its delightful notes of sweet citrus, rich chocolate, and a gentle spice, the Straight Bourbon firmly held its ground as my number one choice. Each sip felt like a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reminding me of previous tastings that had solidified my appreciation for this particular blend. It was a comforting and familiar flavor that resonated deeply with me, making it a standout in the flight.

With that said, I must emphasize that all varieties presented during the tasting were excellent and certainly worth trying. Each whiskey brought something unique to the table, showcasing the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into producing such fine spirits. The experience was not only about tasting but also about appreciating the artistry behind each bottle. As we made our way out of Long Island Spirits, I found myself unable to resist the temptation and ended up purchasing another bottle of the Straight Bourbon. It felt like a fitting conclusion to a wonderful day of exploration and enjoyment, ensuring that I could savor my favorite whiskey long after the tasting had ended.
